ooc// Yes, I do listen to the Newsboys. xD
Perched upon a slight overhang above the roaring, thundering river, a ThunderClan apprentice sighed. He’d been doing a lot of that, lately – but he couldn’t help it. There was a lot on his mind, a lot he could be sighing about.
Breath escaped the tall, chocolate-point tom’s chest in miniature white clouds, condensing on the chilly evening air that was crisp and refreshing and characteristic of leaf-bare. The snow felt like billowing blankets under his feet – quenched only when his warm paws met the infinitesimal ice crystals below them. He loved this season while hating it – the cold was not a problem, but the nearly warrior-aged apprentice found himself going hungry, a lot. Not good for a growing tom – but he didn’t seem to mind.
A lot was racing through his mind – the fact his mentor’s mate had kittened. The fact that ThunderClan was getting a new leader, at Fogstar’s sudden disappearance. The fact he hadn’t spoken with his only real friend in the Clan in months. The fact that, at the next meeting, he would become a warrior, if StarClan had a heart for him. The fact he was feeling mixed emotions about something which should’ve been completely rigid, like the ice that lined the banks of the half-frozen river. Many facts, which had all become questions, recently. When would he become a warrior? How would ThunderClan’s new leader do? How would he do as a warrior? Would his friendships change, or become stronger? How would the Clan fare throughout the remainder of leaf-bare? Many were things that he had no control over, but Wavepaw was known for his curiosity.
The apprentice’s eyes drifted closed, as he blocked all sound out but that of the river in a form of meditation. This had become a recent practice, for him – only his meditation was unlike that of many. Instead of becoming lost in his thoughts, meditation had become a way to escape them. To close his mind, and let his sub-conscious do the work. It was soothing, and sometimes could go on for hours on end if he wasn’t interrupted. But nothing else but the river could be heard – the birds had flown south, seeking warmer weather, and most prey with common sense was asleep for the winter. Not even the squirrels were bustling about from tree branch to tree branch, the whole world had fallen silent.
Wavepaw’s breathing became rhythmic, and he was soon lost in his subconscious tranquility in a form of waking-sleep. If anyone had come to sit next to him, he wouldn’t have realized, unless he smelled their scent or felt their fur on his. But there was nothing he particularly needed to do – nothing that came to mind, anyway. Only the sound of the river and the humid clouds that were his breath were his companions.

Silent, steeped with misery, a slender feline made his way through the thick undergrowth. He wandered aimlessly, carelessly, things had ceased to matter since the day that Sappyleaf died. He was truly and deeply in love with that she-cat, and whoever slaughtered the ginger-and-white beauty would have hell to pay. He refused to believe his nose, because by the scent of her body, it was his own little sister that killed her. Why would one do such a thing to such an amazing feline? Sappyleaf never harmed a soul, nor was she mean to anyone. And Rushingpaw knew very well that she had small kittens in the nursery to take care of ... could one really do such a thing?
What would life be without her sweet scent filling his nostrils, and her hot breath upon his cheek? Nothing. He still had his kits, and he would always love them with intense fierceness ... but Sappyleaf was different, she was his soul mate. Now it felt as if a huge part of him was dead, permanently lost to the world. What a cruel fate the two of them had met. She was ruthlessly slain, leading him to witness the marring of his own being.
Lost in his own thoughts, Lionclaw hadn't realized where he was going until he got there; Sunning Rocks. Oh, his heart! How being in this place stung it so. Memories of the love they once shared, and the love that would always linger with him flooded back to him as a tidal wave. It would be so hard to go on living without Sappyleaf by his side, why had StarClan been so cruel to him? A mother that abandoned him, and a father that ran off, leaving him virtually on his own since the age of four moons. All that he had was his sister, Saffronbreeze, that is, until Sagewind impregnated Moonshine. He was then given three more siblings, all of which he cared very deeply for. But Gracepaw was barely around, and Rushingpaw ... ugh. He couldn't even think about her without shuddering. The only cat he had ever managed to love and trust beside his own siblings was now gone, too. He was destined to be alone.
Looking around, emerald eyes focused upon a lone figure upon the rocks. It was his apprentice, Wavepaw. He had grown into a strong young tom, and would surely be made a warrior along with his sister quite soon. "Greetings, Wavepaw." Said the tom, eyes unusually clouded. "What are you doing out here all by yourself?"

Wavepaw's response was slightly delayed, but, at the sound of his mentor's voice and the smell of his distinctive scent next to him, the apprentice snapped out of his trance-like state. Blinking once to stabilize his vision, he looked to his mentor, his eyes somewhat blank.
Truthfully, he didn't know why he'd chosen Sunningrocks as his meditation spot. It was calm and peaceful, here, and the snow was thinner - if he concentrated hard on the light-coloured rocks, he could even feel traces of greenleaf warmth still contained deep within the ancient boulders. Something about Sunningrocks was timeless, though - no matter what, he'd always feel at peace, here, no matter what had happened in his life.
"I honestly can't say I'm sure," Wavepaw resonded, slightly surprised at the pitch of his voice. Speaking hadn't been something he'd done a lot of, lately - but his maturing voice was yet another sign that warrior age was nearing him. He smiled, as was reflected in his calm but pleasant tone. "Something about Sunningrocks serves as an escape out of life, though. No matter what may have happened previously, this place makes me feel tranquil," Wavepaw continued, looking to the river for a moment, then back to his mentor.
It took the apprentice a moment, but the calm happiness in his eyes faded into worry as he looked Lionclaw in the eye. The handsome tom's eyes were clouded - clearly, he'd missed something. Wavepaw had been rather distant, lately, though - he'd been unaware of Sappyleaf's death, or of Rushingpaw's betrayal. But something about Lionclaw's presence was different, and natural curiosity stirred him.
"Something's troubling you," Wavepaw said respectfully to his mentor, his sea-blue eyes never breaking contact with Lionclaw's clouded, but still deep, ones.

Something stirred inside of Lionclaw as his apprentice spoke, bitersweet memoried now clearer than they had ever been. Visions of times past caused his throat to tighten, would things ever be right again? Choking back tears and doing his best to surpress thoughts of his beloved Sappyleaf, he managed a smile. It was so hard not to think of that beautiful feline. She was the type of cat that left a huge impression on all that she met-- gorgeous from the inside out. The perfect cat, in his eyes at least. He realized how lucky he was for the time that he had with her, for she showed him what it was like to love and be loved, to be happy beyond any material definition. She gave him a perfect life, but that time they had shared seemed all to short while looking back on it, and all he had now to get him by was his memories.
Sadly, he remembered the day they had met. She was but an apprentice, and he a younger warrior. It didn't take either of them long to realize that they were meant to be. Although Bleedingsoul tried to mess it up for the two of them, he had only succeeded in making her be drawn more toward Lionclaw. Now he thanked his cousin endlessly. Perhaps without the ginger tabby's meddling, they never would have fallen in love until it was far too late. And the day that their kits were born, well, that must have been the happiest day of their lives! They were all so gorgeous, and still were .. mostly due to their mothers genes. But none of that mattered now. Those times were gone, and the visions would soon grow blurry. He was alone again.
Yeah... Said the tom, looking down. He could hardly bare the thought of her walking alone amongst StarClan. Looking back up, emerald eyes clouded with misery and grief, he looked into Wavepaw's eyes. Sappyleaf is dead. And I have reason to believe that my sister, Rushingpaw murdered her.

out of character; Rushingpaw was Savanah's original name, right?

ooc// That's what I heard...I'm not entirely in-tune with that plot, though.
Wavepaw's sand-coloured head lowered first in respect, and he closed his eyes. Sappyleaf was dead - not just missing, but dead. Something about death was similar to that of a missing case - except, wiith death, one knows they'll never find who their looking for again. He hadn't known the she-cat well, at all - in fact, they'd never spoken, that he remembered. But the older apprentice could tell from Lionclaw's expression and aura that she was definately a feline to be missed, and that her kits would need a special kind of love to make it through the loss of their mother. Still, though, an image crossed Wavepaw's mind, for a brief second. He hadn't seen Sappyleaf's kits, either - but her kits would become living memories, he was sure of that. To loose a Clan member is devastating, to loose a queen is more so.
When he heard Rushingpaw was Sappyleaf's killer, Wavepaw winced. The sister of his only friend in the Clan, a murderer. Why had Rushingpaw done it? What was the point to killing Sappyleaf? What would it accomplish for her? All of these questions pulsed in Wavepaw's mind unanswered. In killing Sappyleaf, a small part of many members of the Clan had died, including that of himself. It was devastating to see Lionclaw, his mentor, so torn because of these events. It must be equally so for Roaringpaw... the tom thought, raising his head again as he thought of the beautiful Calico feline. He tried to imagine how it must feel by imagining Roaringpaw killed similarly, and couldn't do it. She was his only real friend, one of his only pillars in ThunderClan.
With a glassy look in his eyes, Wavepaw nudged Lionclaw in the shoulder like a brother would. "I'm truly sorry to hear that..." he replied solemnly. "Loosing a mate is like loosing a love, a best friend, and a guardian all at once. I can't picture how this must feel." Wavepaw looked up into the sunset sky for a moment, the breeze lightly ruffling his fur. "I'm sorry, that probably isn't helping," he stated with a small, caring smile, looking back to Lionclaw.
