I am walking alone
on the path of my destiny
should I end it here
or isit not meant to be over yet

Stepping carfully along the edge of the gorge, a pale blue-gray she cat pondered her own past. She was cursed, she was sure. Every cat she had ever been close to had ended up with a premature death. Her parents, her siblings, both her mentors. She had never allowed herself any friends, she could not bare to have them die because of her. She knew she was cursed, there seemed no question in her own mind.
Dark storm clouds billowed overhead, giving sunhigh the feeling of moonhigh. A few solitary raindrops, far and few between, began to patter to the ground. Soon they would begin to thicken, but that would not matter to the she-cat. She faced her warm, ice-blue gaze to the sky witnessing several bolts of fractured lightning before looking down again. A strong wind whipped up over the trees, crashing down to ride the rolercaoster that was the river. The she-cat sat down, facing the river, only a hairsbreath from the edge. She had endangered her fellow RiverClan cats long enough with her curse, it was time to end it.
She thought back to the greencough epedemic that had taken away her brothers, sisters, and mother. She had been so young, but the memory burned like yesterday in her mind. Four tears slipped from her eyes, one for each death. her thought lurched forward to the battle with ShadowClan that had taken away both her father abd first mentor, but once again left her alive. Two more tears, mixing with the drizzle that would soon be thick as a falling lake. Water splashed against her already soaked fur, each raindrop driving the cirtanty that she was cursed and that she must die to protect her clan deeper into her heart.
Finally, she thought of the fox wound that had taken away her second mentor, and one last tear was squeezed from her eye. Then she had become a warrior, and had sworn never to be close to another cat.
Squeezing her eyes shut, the pale blue-gray she cat took a deep breath. It filled her lungs, as well as her heart, and when she opened her eyes they were no longer sad, but fiery and perposful. She would jump from the edge of the gorge, she wouls die.
The windswept torrent below threw it's mighty spray against the stone walls of it's gorge prison, speeding along it's twisting track, separating to flow around sharp stones. It would take her with it. The same that happened to the water would happen to her. It was not the easiest death she could imagine, but it would do. All she would have to do would be step a few inches forward and it would be over. She could even walk over the edge backwards if she thought it would help. She would greatly miss the world she had been born into, but StarClan would welcome her, they would thank her for freeing RiverClan of her curse, she would be safe and happy, and she would be able to ask them why she had had the curse in the first place. But first she had to jump.
Off in the distance, some cat was feeling heart-pain. She could feel it, even this far away, but there was nothing she could do. She always felt other cat's pain, but if she were to help them, she could become their friend, and that would result in the poor cat's death. She could not do that. Her perpose in life must have orrigionaly been to comfort every cat who needed it, but the curse had prevented such kindness, and now she had had enough. She stood up, bunched her muscles, and prepared to leap from the edge.

I feel so alone
as though I'm a ghost
maybe StarClan will recognize me
for all that I could give

ooc//someone stop her, tell her she's not actually cursed, it was all unlucky coincedence

The cloud covered sky above twisted ominously above the forest, torrential winds sweeping across the land. The trees creaked with the force against them, sounding almost like screams of pain. What prey had been left was now hiding deep inside their burrows, far out of the hungry grasp of any predator daring to brave the storm. It was now coming to the end of green-leaf, although the prey ran better in any leaf-bare of the past than it had during this season. Almost every cat in every clan was beginning to look and feel listless.

A slender, dark tom wove his way through the forest, branches creaking and swaying high above his head. He didn't care that, if one could not withstand the strain and fell from the tree, he could be crushed. True, it was quite dangerous for any cat to be wandering about in this weather, the tom did not care. In the depths of the forest he was almost completely hidden; with dark brown fur a shade lighter than the colors of twilight, it would be nearly impossible to spot him as he lurked amongst the shadows.

If he were to disappear, no one would miss him, or even notice that he was gone, but his loyalty to his Clan was the one thing that kept him going. RiverClan needed as many able warriors as it could have to hunt, and if necissary, fight for it. The queens and the kits would starve, and they were some of the only cats which Bolstrike had a soft spot for.

His electric yellow eyes flashed coldly as he neared the gorge. It always had fascinated him to stare into its depths during a storm, for the fury of the water below was unimaginable. As he got closer, however, he noticed that he was not alone. A young she-cat looked as if she was preparing herself to jump, and subconsciously his paws began to carry him toward her. She knew as well as any that doing so would result in her death, poor troubled soul. He had known the feeling... when you feel like you can't go on, feel like everyone would be better off without you, he felt that every single day of his life. No one took the time to understand him, but perhaps today was his chance to reach out to another.

Hey, he cried, yellow eyes wide with fear. He padded up alongside the she-cat, doing all he could to keep from trembling. W-what're you doing?

She turned to the tom, eyes filled with silent surprise. A gust of wind, sweeping from the sky to join its brothers and sisters in the gorge, nearly blew her off her paws. She stumbled into the tom, struggling to roll away from the edge. I will not take him with me. she thought. Separating herself from him, she stood carefully on her paws. Her balance had always been perfect, but it did not matter now. She had almost caused death again, the curse never rested. She looked to the sky, the sky for which she was named. A shadowy sky, an unwelcoming sky, maybe even a cursed one. Skyshade, warrior of RiverClan, cursed. She turned to the tom again. She had seen him around camp, his name was Boltstrike, wasn't it? Wind whipped at her fur, tugging her alomst unstoppably toward the edge. This was her last chance to say goodbye, but should she take it?

"If you were cursed as I am, you would be ridding RiverClan of the danger too" she whispered. She took a step toward the gorge, the wind making it a longer step than she had planned.

She tried to dig her claws into the stone to slow the wind's progress, and it seemed to be working. She was thoroughly soaked, and tired of holding back from jumping, but she did not want Boltstrike to watch, she didn't want him to watch her die. Flattening her ears and crouching to the stone, she slowed her unwilling movement toward the edge even more. Why wasn't he leaving? She turned to the trees. any cat would be crushed by a falling limb, surely he did not have plans similar to hers.

She opened her heart, deciding to feel every clancat's pain while she died. emediatly a flood a various emotions bombarded her, and she was nearly swept from the cliff. Pain and sadness, yes, but also happiness, wonderment, realization, surprise and many others. How could she abandon a world with so many emotions? Then she remembered her curse. How could she stay in a world where so many cats could die because of her? Silently, she wondered if the tom was going to try and stop her from protecting her Clan.

The almost black time turned his head momentarily, strengthening his grip on the sharp, rocky edge of the gorge. He closed his bright yellow eyes for a second, trying not to let the pain of his past overcome him while he was trying to help another cat. True, he probably wasn't the best for the job, but the way she had spoken of herself, she too was an outcast. Perhaps words would make more sense coming from one outcast to another.

Have you ever seen another cat speaking to me? He asked, but he had already answered for the she-cat in his mind. Ever since I was born, I had always been the quiet, brooding type,,, and no one ever bothered to try to get to know me. Every time I get close to having a friend, someone to count on and share things with .. they either die or disapear, so I have stopped trying. Its not always easy being alone, I know .. and I have contemplated doing the very same thing as you came here intending on accomplishing today, but the truth is, your Clan really does need you. Warriors make the Clan, they need us to help hunt..especially in these harsh times, and to help protect the less able amongst us.

Boltstrike took a step forward, so that he was closer to his fellow warrior. If she were to make any life-threatening moves, he might be better able to stop her. The way he saw it was that it was his one chance to do something right for his Clan, and he would not let Skyshade take the leap, not if he could help it.

Skyshade was taken aback. Here was a cat with the same problem as she, the same curse that she had. What were the odds? The rain pelted dowm onto her back but she continued to ignore it, it was unimportant. She liked this cat, he was goning out of his way to stop her from committing suicide. But she couldn't be his friend, they would both die then.

Her ears wereplastered to her head and weighted down with the rain, but she tried to perk them anyway; she had to at least appear that she was reconcidering. Skyshade let up ever so slightly, allowing herself to slip the tinyest bit fasted toward the edge of the gorge. The motion caused by the pull of the wind was nearly imprceptable, she hoped Boltstrike wouldn't notice. If he saw that she was still moving toward the edge, he would likely try to stop her, and then the would both probably tumble to their deaths in the swirling black waters below. She wished she could feel friendship just once before she died, and he was her last chance, but she couldn't let him die to make the last few seconds of her life warmer at the soul.

"My living is more danger to the clan then help. I too have lost veryone I've ever been close to; my parents, my siblings, both my mentors, and my one friend. Who knows who the next death would be? It is better to take away one warrior than to take away many because of that one. I would have liked to bring the Clan kits for them to train as warriors, but if I had taken a mate he would surely have died and so would the kits. I'm cursed, Boltstrike, cursed! StarClan is the only place I'll be able to have friends, because in StarClan they cannot die again. All I ever wanted was a friend, but instead I've had to distance myself from every cat" tears streamed down the sides of her face, and she eased her claws a tiny bit further out of the stone. Her sliding toward the edge of the gorge was just barly perceptible now. She took a deep breath and cried out in a cracking voice "IT ENDS TONIGHT"

Now Boltstrike had begun to panic; nothing like this had ever happened around him before. He had never met another cat who was as dark as he, but truly, he wasn't so dark, it just appeared so. All he ever wanted was just one cat, just one friend, just to find someone like him. When he finally had come across a similar cat to himself, it seemed almost too late. StarClan would not have put him here if he did not serve a purpose, and that went for all the cats, even Skyshade. He had no clue why, but he had taken it upon himself to try and save the she-cat, perhaps her duty in this world had not yet been ful-filled.

C'mon now ... you don't really want to die, do you? How could you leave this world, this Clan, without any regrets? You are here for a reason, and StarClan is supposed to decide when a cat is born and when they die ... by killing yourself you are playing StarClan, and what happens if they are angered by it? Plus, have you ever met a cat like you before? Perhaps your curse would not take affect to me since I am the same way.

Boltstrike had a point, she did not want to die. Maybe she really did have a perpose yet to be fulfilled, maybe her perpose included this meeting. Maybe StarClan had created two cursed cats so they could help each other escape their sarrow and reclusivness, then each would be able to fulfill their own perpose. Or was their perpose to help the other? "Maybe your right, maybe since we're both cursed, we would be unaffected by the curses binding the other to lonelyness. Maybe we're both cursed so we can raise the other from the dark, bring light into the twilight that surrounds us and then we would be able to fulfill our perposess" she gathered her strength, then leaped toward the trees. For one horrifying moment, Skyshade fely the wind catch in her fur and start to drag her back toward death, but her own momentum came through, bringing her to a soft landing in safety. "Or maybe that is our perpose. To bring light to those who need it, to help each other overcome our curses"

She hoped that hadn't sounded as dorky to boltstrike as it had to her, but even if it had, what of it? That was what she had meant to say, and with luck she would gain a friend out of it. But what if by being friends we would be killing each other? thought struck her without warning, but something inside her told her it wan't true. At least, that was what she hoped. If Boltstrike died, it might be her fault.

Sitting down once again, the tom smiled weakly at Skyshade. He was relieved that she was willing to give him a chance, and surprised at himself for wanting to give her a chance as well. He never felt as though he wanted to make friends with one cat in specific, until he had seen her about to end her life. It made him realize just how much he cared about others, even if none of them seemed to care back. Boltstrike was very intrigued by his fellow warrior, seeing as she too beheld the very same curse which had plagues him for so long. Perhaps they were meant to meet, just so they could help break one another's curse, as she had said.

Maybe this is our purpose, to help one another, he agreed, nodding a bit. Or perhaps mine was to help you today, so that you could reach your full potential, because I see a lot of that in you so far. It takes fear to take the life of another, and courage to take your own, but even more courage to keep going when all you want to do is die. Even if helping you today was the only purpose of me being here, I am very content with it, because you seem like a great cat.

It was still a mystery to the dark tom, why he had felt so intent on saving this one cat in particular, but something told him she would be worth it. Maybe he could find in her the companion he had always been looking for, and if they got close enough, it wouldn't matter if they were still considered outsiders of the Clan, because they would have each other to depend on. Again he smiled at her, as his dazed, shock state lifted and he was now returning to normal. Listen, it's kind of not the ideal weather to be out, you could get sick. Do you want to come back to camp and chat some more with me?

Intrigued, Skyshade nodded. Her light pelt would be standing out like a ghost, but his dark fur was melding with the shadows. Maybe she would have less trouble focausing on him in the camp, where everything was fimiliar. "Yes, the camp might be a bit dryer" water had never bothered her in the least, but the cold was a different story. She turned toward the camp and began to walk through the trees.

Every swaying branch was a danger, about to fall to the ground and crush them with the slightest bit of extra wind, but she ignored them. The pale blue-gray she-cat was pleased. Boltstrike had agreed with her, and he seemed to want to continue chatting. neither of them had friends, and she hoped that they had both found one.

A single ray of sunlight slanted through the thick black cloud, reminding Skyshade that it was sunhigh, not night like it seemed. She resented days that were wet, windy and dark as moonhigh on those nights without a moon; they annoyed her. Such days could set the clan back, keeping them from hunting or patroling. She would work extra hard the next day to make sure the clan stayed full-fed and well-protected, but today she would talk to Boltstrike.

Scrambling to his paws, the tom fought the force of the wind, trying his best not to be sucked into the gorge. He murmered his agreement, following closely behind the she-cat he soon hoped to become friends with.
