» It was so complicated. This whole warrior code thing. At least, that's what Dropletkit thought. From the time she was a tiny kit, Droplet had wanted to find a love like her mother's. She had never known her father, but had heard tell of him from the WindClan elders. She wanted a love like that. A love that trusted so completely. Now, however, Dropletkit was uncertain. It seemed like a love like that could not - would not - last. She had been waiting and waiting, hoping and praying, for her dad to return. But he hadn't. Dropletkit had assumed that he would come back, if only for her and mother. The rest of the Clan didn't assume such a thing, and that was evident in the fact that they had appointed Pantherstar leader. She had disappeared, too, just like Littlestar.

» Droplet's doubting thoughts, however, seemed to doubt themselves when Dropletkit thought about the blue-gray ThunderClan kitten. But she couldn't love him, could she? He was ThunderClan, she was WindClan. They couldn't love. The warrior code said! 'Screw the code,' whispered a tiny voice in her mind, one that often spoke but was often ignored. Dropletkit flinched visibly. 'I can't do that,' she scoffed, but her heart beat quickly. She could just forget it. All this distressing Clan life. After all, it didn't help. They were all going to die anyway. She and Tigerpaw could just take off, and leave it forever. For a moment Dropletkit allowed her mind to wander. They could live happily ever after, and have lots of kits. Grand-kits, even! 'No,' Dropletkit told herself harshly, squashing down those ideas and notions. 'No. We must...we must be loyal. We must follow the code. We must!' she told herself, trying to ignore that annoying loud whisper that just said, 'Screw it all.'

» Dropletkit shook her head, rising to her brown-tabbied feet. She twitched her ears, gazing at the water. It looked...well, nice. The day was scorching hot in WindClan, and Dropletkit could even see the glint of a few traps in the distance. Hah. She had seen many a cat caught in those. She knew a medicine cat would be able to patch them up...if they had had one. That was another thing. No leader, no deputy, no medicine cat. No one to lead them at all. Which reminded her of what Tigerpaw had said at their last meeting. They needed to go. Dropletkit's paws itched to take her away from here, and her paws were never wrong. But who could she tell? Her mother was too far gone in her grief to help. It hurt Dropletkit to see her like this, wallowing in misery, but she could do nothing. And no one else would believe her! At the very least, they would pass them off as kit tales and punish her for speaking to Tigerpaw. Dropletkit sighed, dipping one paw into the cooling water. It was luke-warm and dulled her senses just enough for her to forget the troubling thoughts - and there were many - and just bask in the sun. One more time, at least, before Dropletkit decided to take action. And she was afraid that once she took action, there would be no returning to kit innocence ever again.

Dropletkit didn't waver as Tigerpaw hesitated. She stayed smiling up at him, her tail held high, her green eyes sparkling. She grinned at him as he stammered along. He seemed to wonder what he was doing in WindClan.

'Say you're here to see me. Say you're here to see me,' she begged silently, ignoring the little voice in the back of her mind that whispered, 'Atta girl.' She waited patiently as he searched his mind for a reason, a teasing glint entering in her eyes. The hot sun was beating down her back, but she ignored it. She had eyes only for Tigerpaw. 'C'mon, Tiger, say it! Say you're here to see me!' Excitement pulsed through her blood as he opened his mouth to speak.

I came to check up on WindClan. I heard about Pantherstar and things happening, so I wanted to make sure that they knew that all of the Clans were going to meet up at Fourtrees sometime to discuss what was going to happen.

Dropletkit's tail dropped. He wasn't here to see her. Just to "check up" on her stupid Clan. "We're fine," she meowed curtly. "We don't need you or ThunderClan. Now, if you'd be so kind... I don't think Momma would be happy to find you here. Daddy would not approve."

She turned her back on him, tear shimmering in her green eyes that she didn't want him to see. He didn't care about her. She had been wrong, so wrong, to think that he shared the same little kit-crush as she. Wrong, wrong, wrong. She was always wrong.
