The skies were dark grey. It was already misting. Within minutes, rain would be pouring on all the clans' heads, unless they take refuge in their dens. But one little cat wanted the rain to pour on his head. He trotted out of the nursery, enjoying the feel of the cool mist on his sweaty pelt. The little tom stared around, noticed a dripping leaf hanging from a tree, and ran. He leaped forward and caught the leaf in his two little paws, landing on his back and skidding through the outer reeds and skidding into the hard mud outside. He got up and looked around. Now where was that leaf? He continued to look, but spun around. Was that someone calling 'talonkit! Talonkit!" If it was, then it was his mother. Mothers are always doing the sorta things. Patry-poopers.

Talonkit continued on, but heard the voice calling his name again. He slowly padded back to the reeds, but not before bending down and drinking until he could drink no more. At long last he padded back through the reeds and looked around. There was nobody in the clearing. nobody at all. Anywhere. But then he saw the tip of a dark colored tail hanging out of the apprenice den. He couldn't tell who it was. Maybe it was Bluepaw. She was one of his best friends. He padded up and said, "Bluepaw?" But the head that flew from the den was certainly not Bluepaw's. It was Darkpaw. Talonkit let out a mew of surprise and raced back to the nursery, stumbling and tumbling all the way to Mossflower, where he curled up with his brothers and sisters for a nap.
